Year End Giving @ San Jose Stage
This year marks The Stage’s 35th Anniversary Season and our theme, “Truth & Illusion” keeps with our vision of offering theatre that is powerful, provocative and profound. Your support of our programming helps us achieve our mission to illuminate the human condition through imaginative and edgy theatrical experiences that spark ideas and dialogue with the audience.
Founded 35 years ago with the mission of producing new works by emerging and established playwrights that explore the human condition, The Stage celebrates their anniversary presenting five works that contribute thoroughly to that mission. Audiences will be driven to reflect on the polarity of emotions with each play bringing its own unique analysis on the dividing lines of the human condition.
Our year-end giving campaign goal is $35,000 in celebration of Season 35. You can help us reach this goal by December 31 by making a donation to The Stage!
This season we expand on our successes from our previous seasons and further our mission:
Last year The Stage co-commissioned and produced the World Premiere of “The Memory Stick” by Irish playwright Donal O’Kelly through an international collaboration with Dublin, Ireland’s City Arts Office, & the Irish Theatre Institute. The new work was Also presented at the Dublin Theatre Festival, supported in part through a grant from the Knight Foundation.
This Spring we bring you another World Premiere, The Postman Always Rings Twice by Jon Jory, former Artistic Director of the Humana Festival, adapted from the 1934 novel by James M. Cain.
We continue our 3-year partnership with the renowned El Teatro Campesino, commissioning a new work by Luis Valdez. Our co-production of Valley of the Heart, received the SFBTCCSan Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle award for ‘Best Production 2016 - Entire Bay Area’. The commissioned World Premiere, supported through a grant from the Gerbode/Hewlett Foundations’ Playwright Commissioning Awards, is scheduled to be presented in our 2018/19 season.
Our recently established partnership with San José State University & the Hammer Theater Center brings two staged readings of new works this December. We at San Jose Stage are thrilled to extend our mission of developing new works by joining with SJSU on this exciting collaboration.
As we launch our 2017 Year-End Giving Campaign, your support of The Stage is even more vital as we approach 2018.
Your generosity supports The Stage’s creative vision, our employment of over 150 Bay Area theatre artists, and engagement of an audience of OVER 30,000 annually.
We hope you will consider making a contribution to help us further our mission.
Thank you for your continued support and patronage from all of us at The Stage!
